Volunteer of the Month

Rose Jaffe

Our featured volunteer for the month of October is Rose Jaffe, who volunteers at our Beaverton Center.

Q: What made you interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels People?
A:
Before retirement, I worked for Volunteers of America Oregon. I really enjoyed working with our clients. After retirement, I wanted to volunteer in a capacity where I still have face to face contact as I serve members of my community. I love the positive impact Meals on Wheels makes to so many and I am happy to be a small part of that.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
A:
I love the interaction with both our guests and others volunteers. I have made friends from all parts of the world.

Q: What inspires you?
A
: I am inspired by others who are serving their community in any capacity.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not volunteering?
A
: I especially enjoy spending time with family and friends. Needless to say, I have missed this contact recently, so I have rediscovered home crafts such as baking and crocheting. Cuddling up with a good book is one of my favorite ways to spend the afternoon.

Q: What is your favorite holiday food?
A:
That would be baklava. This pastry takes me back to my Greek/Turkish/Sephardic Jewish roots. It is so delicious and it reminds me of childhood family gatherings for both Jewish and American holidays.

Thank you, Rose, for caring about older adults in our community and helping us change lives, one meal at a time!
