Our featured volunteer for the month of June is Jane Davies from our Tigard Center.
Q: What made you interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels People?
A: Giving back to the community and helping seniors are high priorities for me. Meals On Wheels fits the bill perfectly. It gives me the opportunity to deliver nutritious meals as well as to communicate with seniors.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
A: There are many rewards in my role with the best being getting to know the people. We have wonderful chats whether in person (now with social distancing and masks!) and on the phone. Seniors have a lifetime of stories and experiences to share. I love it. It is very rewarding.
Q: What inspires you?
A: It’s inspiring to see their eyes light up when the meals are delivered and when we talk. It’s wonderful to hear them laugh and to express their gratitude for Meals On Wheels.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not volunteering?
A: When not volunteering, I enjoy spending time with my grandkids. In addition, I walk a lot and am an avid reader.
Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of?
A: An accomplishment that has had the most meaning to me was creating, and then running, the volunteer program for a brand-new hospital. I am still in touch with some of those volunteers from years ago.
Thank you, Jane, for caring about older adults in our community and helping us change lives, one meal at a time!
