Our featured volunteers for the month of August are Ron and Linda Rittenhouse from the Hillsboro Center.
Q: What made you interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels People?
A: I had delivered for Meals on Wheels years ago, so after retirement I was interested in volunteering some of my time in helping others. After a few months Ron began helping with the route and it became an activity we enjoyed doing together.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
A: We both enjoy connecting with the clients and knowing we are providing a small but important role in their lives. The meals and the relationships we have developed are very special.
Q: What inspires you?
A: We are just inspired by the satisfaction of helping these folks.
Q: What do you like to do when you’re not volunteering?
A: We spend most of our time taking care of our yard and home. We have 10 grandchildren, so we enjoy the little spurts of time with them. I am a quilter and am teaching our 19-year-old granddaughter to sew/quilt and hope she continues the tradition passed down to me from my grandmother. Ron is active in the music ministry at our church which sure looks different in these times were in. He plays keyboard, piano, organ and does vocals.
Q: What is your favorite summer activity?
A: Pretty much the same as #4 as we’ve been living under the same limitations as the rest of our neighbors and friends.
Thank you, Ron and Linda, for caring about older adults in our community and helping us change lives, one meal at a time!
