Volunteer of the Month: Debra McElveny | Meals on Wheels People

Volunteer of the Month: Debra McElveny

Name: Debra McElveny
Location: Battle Ground Center

Q:  What made you interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels People?
A:  I enjoy older people and wanted to volunteer where I could assist with getting food to the people who need it.  Meals on Wheels is the perfect fit.  I look forward to my deliveries each week and it fits into my work schedule nicely.

Q:  What do you enjoy about your volunteer experience?
A:  The people.  The wonderful people that I deliver food to each week. The conversations are the best and I also enjoy all their fur babies too. The staff for the Battle Ground Meals on Wheels are so great to work with as a team. I have the best volunteer job!!

Q:  What inspires you?
A:  Kindness.  People who are kind. generous and look out for others. Outdoors inspires me, the forest and ocean, the beautiful nature we live in here in the Pacific Northwest.

Q:  What do you like to do when your not volunteering?
A: Gardening in the flowers, puzzles, enjoying our family and walks in the woods around our home. Being outside.

Q:  If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?
A:  Easy answer, New Zealand.  We visited there for two weeks back in 1989 and fell in love with the county. Some of the country reminds me of the Olympic Peninsula National Forest here in Washing. There is so much beauty on the two islands that make up the country. Fjords, beaches, meadows, it is so beautiful and not crowded. The people are so generous and friendly.

Thank you, Debra, for your service to older adults in our community and for helping to change lives, one meal at a time!
