Stride for Seniors Charity Walk raised more than $510,000 for senior meals on April 24. The fourth annual event was reimagined for 2021 so participants could walk a variety of adventure trails while maintaining social distancing. This noncompetitive walk raises both awareness and funds for Meals on Wheels People.
The Standard was the presenting sponsor. Other major sponsors included New Seasons Market, Walter E. Nelson, Hoffman Construction, OnPoint Community Credit Union, Home Instead Senior Care, Bergstrom Nutrition and Gramor Development. Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund provided a $50,000 matching grant.
The walk kicked off at 9 a.m. when participants picked up their walker shirts, a walker kit with items from sponsors, maps of adventure trails, a free Cinnabon, as well as any prizes or incentives won at one of four walker drive-throughs locations throughout the metro area. Walkers then chose one of 12 adventure trails where they could walk in a socially-distant manner
The closing program, featuring the hostess with the mostess Poison Waters along with Emily Burris from KOIN’s AM Extra, was live-streamed at 3 p.m. from our Central Office in Multnomah Village.

About Meals on Wheels People: Meals on Wheels People has been changing lives, one meal at a time, since 1970. We deliver 8,000 meals each weekday to older adults in the greater Portland metro area. Our service not only alleviates hunger and social isolation, but allows seniors to live independently with dignity in their own homes. Aging in place reduces depression, falls and hospitalization as well as the high cost of institutional care. For more information, visit: mowp.org.
