VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH: Ed Motteler

Ed Motteler

Name: Ed Motteler
Location: Tigard, Friendly Chats and Wellness Check programs
Total Hours: 604 Hours

Q: What made you interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels People?
A: My wife and her buddy were delivering meals from the Tigard Senior Center, and I rode along a few times to see how it works and helps those who need the service. When I wasn’t watching, they both ducked out on me, so there I was, with my own route! This was in 2001 or so, and I was hooked.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
A: I know how much those we serve need our assistance and appreciate us.

Q: What inspires you?
A: The incredible talents and organization of the entire MOWP operation. And knowing how much hard work is expended from within. I like being some small part of the whole.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not volunteering?
A: Well, Nana Motteler and I have two precious grandkids, 3 and 7, who seem to appreciate our company from time to time each week. This is a great joy, for sure. And, in our home I have been the First and Second Stories Floor-tender since I retired. Other assignments as well, mind you. And, I try to keep in touch with lots of high school, college, and ex-work friends.

Q: What has been your best moment this year (so far)?
A: This 2021 has been pretty unremarkable from my vantage point. I celebrated my 80th in April, and we celebrated our 58th anniversary in June. And, the Covid has stayed away.
