Susan Hartman

Name: Susan Hartman

Volunteer Hours: 459

Q: What made you interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels People?
A: I had just retired and I had an opportunity to volunteer in the community. I also had a need for activities to fill my time. Why Meals On Wheels? It seemed like a direct way to interact with people and to be helpful. I wanted to help people, especially after a career in technology where I didn’t get that opportunity.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
A: I enjoy being helpful and providing excellent service to our clients, letting them know that people care. I like to chat with the clients, to try and build familiarity. It’s been very difficult during the pandemic.

Q: What inspires you?
A: I’m not sure exactly. I like to feel I’m needed. I thank Meals On Wheels for this opportunity.

Q: What do you like to do when you’re not volunteering?
A: I love to read and my Wolfie dog is my great companion. I’m redesigning my front and back yards. I like to walk and ride my bicycle around. I love to travel the world. I’d like to learn to fish and to get more skilled in growing food. My favorite card game is Spite and Malice.

Q: Who has influenced you the most?
A: I would have to say my family growing up, especially my dad.
